Central American Leagues continue regional dialogue in Managua, Nicaragua

Managua, Nicaragua, 20 May 2025 – The second meeting of Central America’s professional football leagues took place over the past two days in Managua, Nicaragua, hosted by Liga Primera Nicaragua under the auspices of the World Leagues Association.

Representatives from the Panamanian Football League, the National Professional Football League of Honduras, the Premier League of Belize, the First Division of El Salvador, UNAFUT (Costa Rica), and the Nicaraguan First League met to exchange progress and address key issues related to their national competitions. Guests from LigaPro Ecuador and the Suriname Major League also participated, sharing their own experiences.

Prior to the match, the World Leagues Association conducted a survey among participants to identify common achievements and challenges, providing an overview of the regional football landscape.

FIFA representatives were also present to lead discussions on refereeing and technological advances.

After two days of open and constructive dialogue, the leagues agreed to form working groups focused on priority topics such as professionalization and sports development. These groups will maintain active exchanges and work on joint initiatives.

It was agreed that the third meeting of the Central American leagues will be held in 2026, with the Honduran National Professional Football League as the host.
